About The Position

This is an intensive care unit that is one of the premier cardiac surgery centers in the nation. This highly specialized pediatric cardiac surgery and heart/lung transplant intensive care unit provides technologically advanced postoperative management for pediatric patients requiring cardiac surgery. The Pediatric CV Surgical and Transplant Unit uses the family centered care model to treat all pediatric patients requiring intensive care and close monitoring after open heart surgery and cardiac interventions. Through an extensive multidisciplinary team approach and rounding system, there is around the clock nursing observation, assessment and interventions provided to pediatric CV patients. In the Pediatric CV Surgical and Transplant ICU, nurses will have the ability to grow in their knowledge and skill related to caring for complex congenital cardiac patients and those with medical devices such as Berlin and Extracorporal Circulatory Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). RNs hired into this role will be part of an exciting new specialty unit dedicated to care for Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgical and Transplant patients. This 11-bed newly remodeled, state of the art unit will be located in the Mary Brigh Building at St. Mary’s Hospital Campus. Projected opening: Qtr 3 2023. Focused orientation will occur in the current CVS ICU.

Requirements

  • This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

  • The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care.
  • The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN.
  • The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
  • The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources.
  • The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
  • A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
