About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; a degree in the content area or an aligned content area is preferred.
• Fluent Spanish speaker required.
• Experience planning and teaching at the high school level required.
• Substantial subject-matter knowledge consistent with state certification requirements, and knowledge of academic content and contemporary teaching and assessment practices.
• Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
• Ability to work effectively and professionally with students, parents or guardians, staff, and community representatives.
• Ability to adapt approaches to instruction, assessment, and relationship building.
• Fundamental understanding of human development as applied to children and adolescents.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and sound professional judgment.
• Strong technical skills, including the ability to use Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and presentation platforms and equipment.
• Ability to meet the role’s physical demands, including occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling; some kneeling and crouching; and significant finger dexterity.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in the content area or an aligned content area.
• Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educators License (PEL) for grades 9–12, or comparable current out-of-state licensure (strongly preferred).
• Spanish endorsement (strongly preferred).
• ESL endorsement (a plus).
• Experience in an urban high school setting (strongly preferred).

Responsibilities

• Implement a rigorous, research-based curriculum aligned with school and network initiatives.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-aligned lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and accommodate different skill levels and learning needs.
• Set and communicate clear learning objectives, standards, and expectations, and monitor student progress to adjust instruction.
• Use appropriate technology and a variety of instructional resources to support and differentiate learning.
• Assess student performance regularly using formative and summative assessments, provide feedback, and offer opportunities for reassessment and skill mastery.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress, development, grades, and attendance, and prepare required reports.
• Establish and maintain classroom expectations, manage student behavior, and support students’ social and emotional needs.
• Build professional, respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders; communicate with families about academic progress, attendance, conduct, interventions, and student needs.
• Encourage family and community involvement and initiate conferences in accordance with school procedures.
• Participate in department, school, network, and parent meetings, curriculum development, student support activities, and school improvement efforts.
• Engage in instructional coaching, accept and apply feedback, and participate in professional learning and collaboration days.
• Collaborate with faculty and administrators on program instruction, teaching practices, assessment, and student performance.
• Prepare the classroom for activities; assign and grade classwork, assignments, projects, and assessments according to school protocols.
• Follow school and network policies, procedures, grading protocols, and professional obligations.
• Attend school events and perform other duties as assigned within the collective bargaining agreement.
• Promote the school’s mission and vision and apply D.E.I. principles, cultural competence, and inclusive, identity-affirming practices.
