About The Position
This Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) position is assigned to the Tinker Golf Course. The primary purpose is to maintain all golf course equipment through scheduled and emergency tasks ranging from simple to complex. The mechanic performs repairs and adjustments to equipment components, electrical systems, tires, and metal parts; operates specialized grinding, pressing, sharpening, and welding equipment; manages replacement-parts inventory; and maintains a scheduled inspection and maintenance program. The role also includes keeping tools, equipment, and workspaces in serviceable, clean, and orderly condition, following applicable safety and housekeeping rules, and ensuring maintenance personnel are properly trained in golf course machinery operations. Work takes place inside and outside the shop, in dirty, dusty, and greasy conditions, and may involve fumes and risks of cuts, bruises, and abrasions. The work requires bending, reaching, stooping, crouching, arm movement, and frequent lifting and carrying of items of various weights. The incumbent must work uncommon shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- Experience performing tune-ups and engine overhauls on a variety of equipment, from golf carts to dump trucks.
- Experience replacing and adjusting drive and control parts of machinery.
- Experience setting up and operating bed knife and reel grinders and presses.
- Experience making adjustments for correct level and sharpness, and adjusting control linkages, drive clutches, and bearings on equipment.
- Experience wiring electrical systems with replacement harnesses.
- Experience with inventory methods and controls.
- Welding experience.
- Current, valid driver's license.
- Complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- Complete a pre-employment physical with favorable results.
- Complete pre-employment drug testing with favorable results; be at least 18 years of age for drug testing and be subject to random drug testing.
- Work uncommon shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Meet the position's qualification, eligibility, and background requirements.
- Provide a REAL ID or an authorized combination of source identity documents to facilitate installation access.
Responsibilities
- Maintain all golf course equipment through scheduled and emergency maintenance tasks.
- Replace and adjust springs, cutters, tines, blades, reels, knives, brushes, fans, and belts.
- Set up and operate bed knife and reel grinders, an arbor press, a drill press, and automatic mower sharpener machines; make adjustments to achieve correct level and sharpness.
- Adjust control linkages, drive clutches, and bearings on self-propelled mowers and other equipment.
- Wire electrical systems using replacement harnesses.
- Repair and change tires.
- Operate acetylene and electric welders to heat and straighten parts, spot weld, solidify, or modify equipment.
- Maintain stock of replacement parts, anticipate future part needs, and update inventory listings.
- Maintain a scheduled maintenance program, including daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections.
- Keep repair tools and equipment in serviceable condition.
- Maintain clean and orderly workspaces in compliance with OSHA, safety, fire, and good housekeeping rules and regulations.
- Ensure maintenance personnel are properly trained in operating golf course machinery.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
