About The Position

Living City Farms is seeking a General Farm Laborer for the growing season. This is a hands-on, part-time, seasonal role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, learning about regenerative agriculture, and contributing to a community-focused farm. The position involves working closely with the Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager, gaining experience in various farm operations including planting, harvesting, nursery management, mushroom cultivation, produce preparation, farm maintenance, and community events. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy physical work, being outdoors, acquiring new skills, and seeing the tangible results of their efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with bed preparation, planting, transplanting, and direct seeding.
  • Perform weeding, fertilizing, irrigation, and organic pest management.
  • Install and remove row covers, insect netting, and tarps.
  • Help construct and maintain growing areas, high tunnels, and farm infrastructure.
  • Plant trees, perennials, and other crops.
  • Seed vegetable flats according to the crop plan.
  • Transplant and up-pot plants in the nursery.
  • Monitor plant health and readiness for field transplanting.
  • Manage nursery irrigation and ensure proper watering.
  • Harden off plants before transplanting.
  • Label flats and maintain organized nursery records.
  • Contribute to improving nursery processes and best practices.
  • Harvest fresh produce based on crop availability and customer needs.
  • Sort and grade produce to ensure high quality.
  • Wash, pack, and store produce appropriately.
  • Collect and record harvest data.
  • Adhere to food safety procedures and regulations.
  • Assist in developing efficient wash-and-pack workflows.
  • Monitor humidity levels in the mushroom growing area.
  • Harvest mushrooms properly and record weights.
  • Inspect harvested mushrooms for quality.
  • Learn and follow mushroom production and inoculation procedures.
  • Maintain farm grounds and equipment.
  • Perform mowing, weed whacking, and general property maintenance.
  • Assist with the construction and expansion of new growing areas.
  • Support seasonal infrastructure projects and farm improvements.
  • Assist with produce deliveries and build customer relationships.
  • Represent Living City Farms at community events.
  • Participate in farm tours, workshops, and educational activities.
  • Collaborate with team members across Good Place Holdings.
