About The Position

Requirements

• Completion of a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Surgical Tech, or LPN program, or a bachelor's degree program in a pre-med or pre-physician-assistant track.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work well within a team.
• Professionalism and strong customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with the doctor and professionally and pleasantly with patients and coworkers.
• Ability to lift at least 15 pounds, stand for prolonged periods (such as an hour at a time), and use a step stool.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of recent experience as a Surgical Assistant, Medical Assistant, LPN, or in another clinically based patient-care role is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam and procedure rooms and assist them with walking as needed.
• Collect patient history and information, take vital signs, and perform screenings according to provider guidelines.
• Prepare visit paperwork and ensure complete, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Conduct pre-operative intake interviews, explain surgical procedures, and answer questions within the role's scope.
• Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with required supplies.
• Comply with company policies and procedures, including HIPAA requirements.
• Drape and disinfect surgical sites, administer local anesthesia injections, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis.
• Assist physicians during procedures by passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, and performing related tasks.
• Bandage surgical sites, prepare discharge paperwork, review wound-care instructions, and respond to patient questions or concerns.
• Clean instruments and prepare them for terminal sterilization in an autoclave.
• Collect and process specimens accurately; prepare pathology and lab specimens and route them to the appropriate lab according to insurance requirements.
• Maintain an accurate pathology log and notify patients of pathology and lab results.
• Remove sutures.
• Respond to patient questions in person and by phone as instructed.
• Schedule or reschedule appointments with providers and specialists as necessary, and send records as needed.
• Maintain medication samples, discard expired supplies, and keep appropriate records.
• Maintain infection control, clean exam rooms, and keep supply cabinets stocked.
• Document medical instructions given to patients.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.
