About The Position

This position is responsible for providing and serving family style snacks and meals for the children of the Early Childhood Center. Works closely with their supervisor, CACFP staff, and registered dietician to create a balanced, eye appealing, and culturally appropriate menu that meets all applicable standards. This position will ensure that complete and accurate food records are maintained, food safety standards are adhered to, and food/supply purchasing is cost effective. Responsible for submitting weekly kitchen sanitation and cooking logs and monthly credit card reconciliation documents.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a General Education Degree (GED)
  • Three (3) years of experience in nutrition, menu planning, food preparation, serving, purchasing supplies and budgeting for large groups
  • Experience working with USDA, Child and Adult Food Program, or the National School Lunch Program
  • State of Alaska Food Worker Card
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Food Protection Manager Certificate
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License, reliable transportation on insured vehicle
  • Knowledge of inventory control and accounts payable
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and strong organizational, planning and reporting skills
  • Understanding and ability to work with the family centered philosophy
  • Must comply with Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (ICPA) requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • A.A. or B.A. in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Culinary Arts
  • Experience with Head Start/Former Head Start Parent
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, well-organized kitchen.
  • Ensure kitchen and food service areas pass annual sanitation inspections by observing proper food storage, dishwashing, and sanitation procedures.
  • Organize and maintain a record-keeping system including cycle menus, recipes, student dietary needs/restrictions, and daily meal logs.
  • Develop shopping lists based on the cycle menu and procure necessary food and supplies weekly.
  • Post the Cycle Menu throughout the center.
  • Assist in the classroom as possible to promote a positive outlook on nutrition.
  • Work within a limited budget and strive to make cost-effective, reasonable purchases.
  • Work effectively, positively, and cooperatively with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Guide Cook Aide and substitutes as applicable.
  • Understand and follow the financial policies and procedures of the Tribe.
  • Obtain a substitute cook when unable to report to work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
