About The Position

UPMC Presbyterian is seeking an Echo Clinical Specialist to join their team in a full-time capacity. This position offers daylight hours between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM and includes rotating call coverage, weekend rotation, and holiday rotation. The role involves performing ultrasound diagnostic examinations, leading training initiatives, developing training programs, overseeing quality assurance, and acting as a technical resource for sonographers. The team is dedicated to advancing cardiovascular imaging excellence while supporting education, innovation, and exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Completion of formal training in an accredited ultrasound program or professional equivalent required.
  • 3 years of ultrasound experience required.
  • Level II Advanced Sonographer experience required.
  • Performance review consistent with minimum of Strong/Solid performance on last performance review.
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography RDCS certification (registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International RCS certification (registered cardiac sonographer) required.
  • CPR/BLS required.
  • Act 33, 34, 73 as required by business unit
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
  • Act 34

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound diagnostic examinations in accordance with Level I and Level II Advanced Sonographer standards.
  • Lead training initiatives on new imaging techniques and research study protocols, collaborating with cardiologists and researchers to identify innovative solutions and best practices.
  • Develop and implement training programs, assist with the startup of new offsite locations, and support reporting systems, image management, and effective communication with physicians, colleagues, and patients.
  • Oversee the technologist quality assurance program and review/update imaging protocols in collaboration with, or in place of, the Lead Sonographer.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for new equipment implementation and staff training.
  • Assist with accreditation activities and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Act as a technical resource for sonographers, supporting daily operations, continuing education, and staff development.
  • Participate as a peer representative in annual staff performance review processes.
  • Attend advanced training sessions and seminars to maintain expertise in evolving imaging technologies and share knowledge with departmental leadership and new hires.
