About The Position

Requirements

• Master of Library and Information Science degree, or equivalency, from an American Library Association-accredited school of librarianship.
• Evidence of training, experience, or study in an area of service specialty, such as Children’s, Teen, or Adult Services.
• Washington State Librarian’s Certificate.
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to stay organized, particularly when budgeting and coordinating events and programs.
• Availability for a varied work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, which may change periodically.
• Ability to travel extensively within the service area.

Responsibilities

• Create, develop, direct, deliver, and evaluate relevant services and programs, including co-creating programs with the community.
• Develop relationships and partnerships with community-based organizations across civic, business, education, and cultural communities.
• Engage with the community and target service populations through multiple delivery methods.
• Promote library materials, services, and programs; participate in community activities; answer questions; and discuss community needs.
• Represent the Library and make public presentations.
• Identify and stay current with the service area, its informational needs and interests, and future information-service needs and trends.
• Plan and organize information for the service population.
• Provide in-depth readers’ advisory, informational, and specialty services, including expertise in children’s services.
• Assist and educate patrons in using library technology resources.
• Promote and support intellectual freedom and resolve related concerns or redirect them to an appropriate source.
• Promote and support KCLS’s diversity, equity, and inclusion values, centering communities most affected by structural inequities in programming, partnerships, and information services.
• Mentor, train, and model for other staff, and work closely with the Public Services Assistant to support informational and readers’ advisory services.
• Create and provide relevant and timely communications.
• Participate in collection development and maintenance.
• Maintain professional expertise and participate in library-profession activities, KCLS projects and committees, staff meetings, and training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
