About The Position

Requirements

• Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.
• Graduation from an appropriately accredited school of professional nursing, or qualifying equivalent education as described in the announcement.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registered professional nurse licensure in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia; a Graduate Nurse Technician exception may apply to eligible candidates pursuing licensure.
• Meet the applicable education and specialized nursing experience requirements for the assigned Nurse grade and level.
• U.S. citizenship, except that non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy.
• Selected applicants must complete applicable drug screening, background/security investigation, onboarding, and pre-employment physical evaluation requirements.
• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for VA Health Care Personnel.
• Complete all application requirements detailed in the announcement’s Required Documents section.
• Submit transcripts when relying on education to qualify; foreign education requires appropriate equivalency documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in directing nursing education, orientation, competencies, quality improvement, and outcomes utilization.
• Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic specialty care through collaboration.
• Evaluate practice on an ongoing basis using the best available evidence.
• Provide peers with informal, constructive feedback to support improvement.
• Foster a safe and supportive environment for the professional development of healthcare professionals.
• Contribute a professional nursing perspective to interdisciplinary team discussions.
• Partner with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes.
• Support colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality specialty nursing care.
• Share educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.
• Question clinical practices to promote evidence-based care.
• Participate in activities and strategies that sustain an evidence-based-practice culture.
• Provide patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education, and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.
• Oversee licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants, as appropriate to the clinic setting.
