About The Position
The Staff Andrologist performs technical, clinical, and research duties in the Andrology laboratory under the supervision of the Andrology Supervisor and/or Senior Andrologist. The role includes reporting testing results to senior and supervisory staff, directors, and physicians, and interacting with patients. The successful candidate performs andrology and IVF laboratory procedures, maintains quality control and documentation, and coordinates activities with senior laboratory members.
Requirements
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree in a biological science.
- At least 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting performing basic andrology techniques.
- Familiarity with Excel, Access, and a clinical medical record system.
- New York State Clinical Lab Technician license.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

- New York State Clinical Lab Technologist license.
- Experience in a fertility laboratory.
- Ability to review chain of custody.
Responsibilities
- Perform testing according to WHO protocols and prepare patient documentation related to chain of custody.
- Assess and grade sperm and handle it during in vitro culture.
- Prepare semen for intrauterine transfer and cryopreserve semen for storage.
- Prepare media for swim-up using appropriate biological and chemical laboratory safety techniques.
- Respond to basic inquiries regarding reports from outside providers.
- Monitor equipment, reagents, media, and the work environment according to quality-control procedures; report malfunctions promptly and dispose of sharps and needles in designated hazard containers.
- Follow departmental procedures and perform tests using universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens.
- Accurately enter and retrieve data in a predetermined Access database and transcribe andrology data into written and computerized databases.
- Assist embryologists with clinical laboratory protocols for preparing semen specimens for use in an Embryology laboratory.
- Assess specimens for appropriateness for IVF procedures; process semen specimens for IVF insemination and testicular biopsy specimens for insemination or freezing.
- Monitor, clean, and calibrate equipment daily and maintain inventory of laboratory chemicals and supplies.
- Coordinate laboratory activities with senior members of the lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
