Product Manager (Healthcare Payments & HSA/FSA)

WEX•Chicago, IL
•$89,800 - $120,400

About The Position

The Product Manager (Healthcare Payments & HSA/FSA) is a core execution role within WEX's Health & Benefits digital organization. The position drives delivery and continuous improvement of payment products, including HSA debit card rails, claims reimbursement flows, ACH/RTP money movement, real-time payment notifications, and spend authorization logic. The role connects product decisions to adoption, retention, cost-to-serve, and revenue outcomes, and partners with engineering, compliance, operations, finance, and external payment vendors. The role owns end-to-end execution for payment features, participates in and facilitates Scrum ceremonies, supports payments discovery and strategy, and uses qualitative and quantitative insights to guide prioritization. It also identifies friction in the member payment experience and validates potential improvements through customer research and test-and-learn approaches. AI-enabled workflows are used for research synthesis, competitive analysis, and requirements drafting, with human accountability for judgment and risk decisions.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business, technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience, including at least 2 years in product management roles with direct ownership of feature delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in fintech, healthcare payments, or consumer financial products, with hands-on knowledge of payment rails, money movement, or benefits account platforms.
  • Ability to translate customer and operational insights into testable hypotheses and deliver short-to-medium-term product outcomes.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, compliance, operations, and external vendor partners.
  • Comfort with qualitative and quantitative analysis, data dashboards, and decision-making with imperfect information.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare payment ecosystems, including HSA/FSA/HRA debit card rails, ACH, RTP/FedNow, and claims reimbursement workflows.
  • Familiarity with payment compliance constraints, including IRS 213(d) substantiation rules, IIAS, Reg E, and AML/KYC implications for benefits accounts.
  • Ability to own complex, dependency-heavy payment feature delivery across experience, technology, compliance, and operations.
  • Strong prioritization skills, including articulating feature trade-offs in business terms and making bounded decisions without full consensus.
  • Demonstrated Agile product delivery experience, including hands-on participation in and leadership of Scrum ceremonies.
  • Experience leading discovery for payment-adjacent product problems and conducting direct customer research.
  • Ability to connect product decisions to adoption, efficiency, revenue, retention, cost-to-serve, operational load, error rates, and member financial outcomes.
  • Ability to establish decision ownership and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience at a health benefits administrator, HSA/FSA/HRA platform, or fintech company.
  • Experience with real-time payment (RTP/FedNow) or ACH product development.
  • Working knowledge of claims adjudication logic or auto-adjudication workflows.
  • Experience designing AI-assisted product workflows using LLMs or agents for research, synthesis, or insight generation.
  • MBA or equivalent graduate education in business, technology, or health systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end execution for payment product features, including HSA debit card rails, claims auto-adjudication, ACH/RTP money movement, and real-time payment notifications.
  • Participate in and facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Refinement, Demos, and Retrospectives; lead ceremonies as needed.
  • Drive short-term delivery, iterate based on stakeholder feedback and outcome data, and connect delivery choices to adoption, revenue, and operational efficiency targets.
  • Lead discovery for payment-specific product problems, including spend authorization flows, payment partner integrations, and compliance-adjacent money movement constraints.
  • Synthesize customer insight, payment industry signals, and competitive intelligence into testable hypotheses, using AI-enabled research tools with rigorous human judgment.
  • Use payment metrics such as authorization and decline rates, transaction error rates, auto-adjudication throughput, and cost-per-transaction to inform prioritization.
  • Cross-check AI-generated analysis against source data and apply rigor appropriate to decision reversibility and risk.
  • Communicate and coordinate with engineering, compliance, finance, operations, and external payment partners, clarify decision ownership, and resolve impediments.
  • Contribute ideas on payment strategy, sequencing, and trade-offs.
  • Identify member payment experience friction, including card declines, reimbursement delays, and claims submission errors, and turn trends into product improvements.
  • Participate in customer empathy sessions with employers, members, and brokers, and validate payment UX hypotheses before full build.
