About The Position

The Area Leader is responsible for overall team member engagement within their span of care. The role drives recognition, feedback and coaching, performance management, training and development, and succession planning. The Area Leader directs Leads and Team Leaders and is accountable for area operations and financial results, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and staffing forecasts, and resolution of team member and customer conflicts. The position identifies and implements process improvements and serves as a steward of the Meijer culture. The Area Leader ensures team members receive appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback; supports career growth and a diversified talent pipeline; and holds team members accountable to Meijer standards. The role oversees corporate plan execution, services and products, sales and productivity, and budget line items in the P&L. It also drives safety, compliance, and store condition management, and ensures Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address training needs. Other duties may be performed as assigned or required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum 4+ years of retail, grocery, or customer service experience.
Passion for providing industry-leading service.
Ability to communicate clear and precise direction to team members.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.
Strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

Engage with team members to ensure appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
Identify talent and conduct career discussions to support store staffing and a diversified talent pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
Hold candid discussions with team members to uphold Meijer standards and support growth within the organization.
Oversee area operations and financial results, including execution of corporate plans and effective management of services and products to maximize sales and productivity.
Own budget line items in the P&L.
Drive safety, compliance, and overall condition management throughout the store, and follow store compliance procedures.
Ensure Team Leaders and Leads guide team members, assign daily work, and address training needs.
Identify and implement process improvements.
Serve as a steward of the Meijer culture.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
