About The Position

The Retail Associate – Cashier helps provide customers with an excellent shopping experience while supporting Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers’ mission. The role welcomes guests, assists with purchases and pricing, processes cash register transactions accurately, and invites customers to round up their totals in support of the organization’s mission and scholarship programs.

The cashier also helps maintain the sales floor and dressing room by organizing shelves, putting away carts, and returning merchandise to the sales floor. Team members are cross-trained and expected to learn and work in all areas of the retail operation, as requested by the leadership team. This part-time position averages 20–25 hours per week, with hours and operating days that fluctuate based on business needs and store location. The employee must be available to work any shift Monday through Sunday. The workplace is drug-free, and pre-employment substance abuse testing is performed.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic math skills.
• Prior experience in a retail or customer service-related environment required.

Nice To Haves

• One year of cash-handling experience preferred.
• Warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure each guest receives outstanding customer service.
• Assist customers with purchases and pricing.
• Operate the cash register and apply basic addition and subtraction skills.
• Understand item pricing and the “color of the week.”
• Maintain the appearance of the sales floor and dressing room by organizing shelves, putting away carts, and returning merchandise from the dressing room to the sales floor.
• Ask customers to round up totals in support of the organization’s mission and/or scholarship programs.
• Meet or exceed daily retail store goals.
• Work in other areas of the store as requested by the leadership team.
• Learn and work in all areas of the retail operation through cross-training.
