About The Position

The Cashier is responsible for efficiently processing customer sales transactions at front registers, maintaining proper cash control, ensuring customer satisfaction, and safeguarding company assets. The role assists customers as needed, maintains a friendly and energetic demeanor, and follows Front End Department procedural guidelines. Cashiers may need to work varied hours and days as business dictates.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency degree.
• Maintain the highest level of customer service.
• Adapt to high-volume retail and work in a cross-functional team environment.
• Take initiative when problems arise and adapt to a variety of situations.
• Pay advanced attention to detail, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrate excellent written communication and documentation skills.
• Demonstrate excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for working with peers and senior management.
• Knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Multitask and maintain strong organizational skills.
• Support and contribute to team goals.
• Work varied hours and days as business dictates.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Demonstrate ability to use a Point of Sale System (POS).

Nice To Haves

• 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in Front End department processes and procedures.
• Previous experience in the natural foods industry.

Responsibilities

• Walk the store before each shift to learn about promotional and sale items; complete produce walks and weekly testing.
• Compute bills, itemized lists, and tickets showing amounts due.
• Receive payments by cash, check, credit card, gift card, or automatic debit.
• Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, and change due to customers.
• Operate the cash register and electronic scanner; enter PLU or UPC codes manually when needed and display purchase costs, tax, and rebates.
• Greet customers entering the store and respond promptly to customer needs.
• Maintain clean, orderly checkout areas and ensure personal items are not kept in the area.
• Issue coupons and rain checks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
