About The Position

The Associate I, Retail Sales Cashier provides exceptional customer service by greeting customers warmly and responding to inquiries promptly and professionally. The role operates a computer-based point-of-sale system to complete accurate transactions, verify till counts, and maintain a balanced cash drawer. The associate supports Goodwill’s mission by inviting customers to round up their purchases and explaining the mission that the initiative supports.

The associate also helps maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked sales floor and point-of-sale area, follows opening and closing procedures, and helps ensure the safety and cleanliness of the sales floor and restrooms. The position may require cross-training or providing backup in other areas. Part-time positions are available, with a varied schedule that may include weekends, evenings, holidays, and occasional overtime.

Requirements

• Accurately perform basic calculations and understand the value of coins and United States currency.
• Use basic math, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
• Communicate effectively with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
• Operate a computer-based cash register and credit card machine.
• Withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting for up to eight hours per day.
• Have color vision to support accurate transactions.
• Work a varied schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays, with occasional overtime as necessary.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of retail sales or cash handling experience.

Responsibilities

• Verify till counts, complete accurate cashier transactions, and maintain a balanced cash drawer using a computer-based point-of-sale system.
• Encourage customers to round up their transactions and share information about the mission supported by the initiative.
• Provide excellent customer service in accordance with company values.
• Assist customers with questions, concerns, and purchases.
• Complete opening and closing procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized sales floor by cleaning and organizing shelves and racks, picking items up from the floor, and putting away products and returned or unwanted items.
• Help keep the point-of-sale area, sales floor, and restrooms safe, clean, organized, and well stocked.
• Make customer delight/power hour announcements over the intercom to organize and clean the sales floor.
• Follow retail center policies, procedures, and safety processes.
• Cross-train in other departments or areas and provide backup as required.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.
