About The Position

The University of Pikeville seeks a strategic and experienced Director of Finance and Business Affairs to lead financial planning and business operations for the Tanner College of Dental Medicine. This position plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the financial health of both academic and clinical operations, with a strong emphasis on optimizing dental school clinic revenue models. The Director partners closely with the Dean and University leadership to ensure fiscal sustainability, operational efficiency, and alignment with the College’s mission to deliver high-quality education and patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required; MBA, MHA, or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in dental, healthcare, or academic clinical environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with dental or healthcare revenue cycle management.
  • Strong understanding of dental clinic operations, billing systems, and insurance processes.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage complex budgets and financial models.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and management of the College’s annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide financial forecasting, modeling, and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, and internal controls.
  • Direct and optimize dental clinic revenue cycle operations, including patient billing, collections, insurance claims management, and reimbursement processes.
  • Analyze clinic productivity, payer mix, fee schedules, and provider performance to enhance revenue generation and financial sustainability.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to improve operational workflows, patient throughput, and revenue capture.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to clinic operations, including production, collections, adjustments, and case acceptance.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and healthcare regulations.
  • Oversee financial aspects of grants, contracts, and external funding sources.
  • Partner with University finance and business offices to align College operations with institutional priorities.
  • Manage procurement processes, vendor relationships, and major equipment acquisitions.
  • Support capital planning, facility expansion, and clinic growth initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor finance and business staff.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Participate in strategic planning and accreditation processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
