About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an EMT–Paramedic program, graduation from a related allied health sciences program, or one year of related experience.
• Passing score of 80% or higher on UTMB’s arrhythmia test.

Responsibilities

• Operate and troubleshoot all functions of the telemetry monitoring system.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge patients in the telemetry monitoring system and enter all required information.
• Adjust alarms and review trends and alarms.
• Clean and maintain telemetry monitors and holders, and account for monitors upon patient discharge and at the end of each assigned shift.
• Order monitoring supplies.
• Obtain and document rhythm strips according to unit or department standards, and maintain a log book on all monitored patients.
• Provide continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on the electrocardiographic Central Station.
• Interpret EKG rhythms, recognize significant EKG events, and communicate information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame.
• Immediately report significant or life-threatening changes to a registered nurse.
• Participate in orienting and teaching nursing staff, physicians, and students regarding monitoring equipment.
• Assist with maintenance of unit equipment and perform daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators.
• Help maintain a safe environment by ensuring equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections and reporting malfunctioning equipment.
• Provide age-appropriate interaction and care as indicated; use aseptic techniques and infection control measures; recognize patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crises; and respect and support patient and family rights.
• Practice positive guest and peer relations, support quality improvement activities, demonstrate acceptable productivity and cost containment, and function as an interdependent and supportive team member.
• Participate in and promote the development of self and others, and adhere to internal controls and the reporting structure.
