About The Position

The Telemetry Tech is a vital member of the patient care team, monitoring and interpreting ECG rhythms in acute care and emergency settings. The role supports patient safety by accurately recording ECG changes, promptly reporting critical developments, troubleshooting monitoring equipment, and maintaining accurate, confidential patient records. The position also includes maintaining inventory, cleaning transmitters after use, and identifying malfunctioning equipment. The tech observes and documents patients’ cardiac rhythms every shift, when an arrhythmia occurs, and when a new patient is placed on telemetry. The RN cosigns documented rhythms. The tech promptly notifies the RN of life-threatening arrhythmias, responds to monitor alarms according to department and hospital policy, documents communications with caregivers, and ensures the central monitor is attended and that telemetry patients are connected with alarms appropriately set. EKG records must be maintained systematically, and reports filed in charts as needed.
