About The Position

Requirements

• Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, grounds keeping, or food service work.
• Capable of moving about in a 305,000-square-foot building multiple times daily.
• Capable of ascending and descending the stairs of a 4-story building multiple times daily.
• Able to stand for extended periods during cleaning processes.
• Capable of stooping, kneeling, and crouching to pick up litter, retrieve equipment, and clean restrooms, offices, lobbies, and maintain floors.
• Capable of moving furniture that weighs 20-40 lbs or more.
• Capable of transporting tables and chairs weighing 60-80 lbs to set up for events throughout the building.
• Will use arms/hands to operate floor/power equipment to prepare and maintain floors.
• Will work with and be exposed to common cleaning products.
• Satisfactory pre-employment background check.
• Satisfactory pre-employment physical.
• Valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning and maintaining the LSU Student Union facility.
• Moving about in a 305,000-square-foot building multiple times daily to clean and prepare ballrooms, meeting/conference rooms, lobbies, office space, and exterior sidewalks, patios, and balconies.
• Cleaning lobbies, bathrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, billiards area, and administrative area of the union by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing.
• Mixing or blending cleaning solutions to proper concentrations.
• Responsible for set-ups and breakdowns associated with daily events in meeting rooms, lobbies, ballrooms, and exterior grounds.
• Cleaning, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors using industrial-size mops and commercial-type floor machines.
• Filling commercial floor machines with cleaning solutions of proper concentration, and emptying unused solution into the appropriate container.
• Cleaning floor machines and checking and recharging batteries.
• Washing, rinsing, and drying industrial-size wet mops, dust mops, and commercial floor pads.
• Operating wet dry vacuuming carpet extraction equipment and other commercial equipment as required for cleaning and shampooing carpets.
• Emptying (exterior and interior) trash and recycling containers and transporting waste material to outdoor refuse containers or recycling containers as needed.
• Cleaning, decontaminating, and deodorizing waste containers using proper materials according to label directions.
• Performing other duties as may be assigned by Building Services supervisors, Managers, or other administrative personnel within the department.
