About The Position

S&ME is seeking a dedicated NDT/NDE Technician for their Metals team in New Albany, Indiana. This role involves ensuring the structural integrity and safety of projects through visual inspection of structural steel, including bolted and welded connections. Fieldwork may require climbing steel structures to heights exceeding 200 feet using fall protection equipment. The position involves conducting inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds. Responsibilities include managing testing assignments, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and creating detailed reports. This role may require working over 50 hours per week, including off-shift and weekend work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience OR an associate degree in a closely related field
  • Active industry-related certifications:
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or working towards
  • AMPP Coating Inspector Level I or II
  • Achievement of ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method
  • Willing and able to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment
  • Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Climbing heights over 200 feet
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
  • Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
  • Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems.
  • ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
  • Level II for UT certification
  • Level II for PT, MT certifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and deploy non-destructive testing methods to uphold impeccable quality standards.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) duties, such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds.
  • Juggle testing assignments across projects, contributing to the success of each endeavor.
  • Maintain testing equipment in working order and calibration; can include managing field and laboratory equipment inventories, formal calibration records, and participating in quality systems audits.
  • Craft detailed reports to effectively communicate findings.
  • Visually inspect structural steel, including bolted and welded connections.
  • Engage in fieldwork that may involve safely climbing steel structures such as buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks, to heights exceeding 200 feet, using fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems.
