About The Position

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in web development
• Strong backend development skills with a preference for full stack engineers
• Proven ability to create scalable performant solutions within aggressive deadlines
• Proven experience working in Ruby (or similar backend languages or willingness to learn), with the ability to ramp up quickly in their stack
• Comfortable working across the stack, with React/Next.js and TypeScript strongly preferred
• Already running AI coding agents autonomously, including overnight, to ship. Daily Claude Code use is table stakes
• Experience integrating with third-party APIs: OAuth flows, webhooks, rate limits, idempotency
• Track record of owning services in production. Comfortable with observability, on-call rotations, and debugging real incidents
• Strong communication skills — comfortable collaborating across teams and explaining technical concepts clearly
• A self-starter mentality with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, early-stage environment
• Empathy for end users, including low-to-moderate-income renters, and a desire to build products that make a difference

Nice To Haves

• Experience with AWS, terraform and Infrastructure in general is a plus

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain critical user-facing products and backend systems that power the platform
• Contribute to and help evolve the core backend architecture, focusing on scalability and performance
• Collaborate closely with product, operations, and leadership to align technical solutions with business needs
• Drive best practices in software engineering, including code reviews, testing, and documentation
• Play a key role in shaping engineering culture, contributing to hiring efforts, and potentially mentoring or leading other engineers over time
