About The Position

Requirements

• PhD in biology, computer science, or related fields.
• Three years (by start of position) of postdoctoral experience in computational, genome analysis of plant bacterial pathogens.
• Research experience with Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Agrobacterium vitis.
• Expertise with Agrobacterium and Rhizobium genomics.
• Experience with developing computational workflows for other researchers.
• Experience using a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster.
• Demonstrably collaborative.
• This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq.
• Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Responsibilities

• Uses computational methods to study genome sequences to infer the evolutionary basis for plasmid transfer and host range in the bacterial pathogen Agrobacterium vitis.
• Uses computational methods to study genome sequences to infer the evolution of Agrobacterium and Rhizobium species and their plasmids.
• Uses molecular biology methods to understand plasmid transfer and host range.
• Mentors and assigns tasks to undergraduate student workers.
• Contributes to outreach and departmental service.
