About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Neuromodulation Lab. This role focuses on the study of neuromodulation interventions for substance use and psychotic disorders. The research assistant will be responsible for recruiting research subjects, assisting investigators in data collection and analysis, and specifically working on a randomized, controlled trial of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for nicotine dependence in individuals with schizophrenia and healthy controls. This position requires a strong interest in working with individuals experiencing psychosis and nicotine dependence, excellent organizational and data management skills, and the ability to work independently. The ideal candidate is motivated and interested in pursuing further education in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, neuroscience, psychology, or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in clinical research is highly desirable
  • Individuals interested in mental health, interventional psychiatry, neuromodulation, psychosis, addiction, and clinical trials are especially encouraged to apply
  • It is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing an MD or PhD in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting research participants into research studies
  • Assessing participant eligibility for research studies
  • Discussing informed consent with research subjects
  • Scheduling research study visits
  • Conducting clinical interviews of psychiatric symptoms and substance use
  • Administering cognitive tests
  • Carrying out neuroimaging study protocols
  • Administering rTMS with supervision
  • Using PsychoPy, EPrime, and Matlab to collect and analyze data
  • Checking and maintaining data quality
  • Assisting with the management of Institutional Review Board approvals
  • Database management
  • Analysis of behavioral and brain imaging data
  • Assisting with manuscript preparation
