About The Position

HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, with over 11,000 employees, is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a significant contributor to Alabama's economic growth. For nearly 85 years, the company has designed, built, and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. As the largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, Ingalls Shipbuilding is currently building four classes of ships simultaneously and has a long history of developing technologically advanced vessels for the surface Navy fleet. The Quality Inspector 3 role involves using predetermined methods, operations, setups, and prescribed specifications to visually inspect in-process and completed products such as electronic units, subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies, or mechanical units, subassemblies, structural flaws, internal defects, and missing welds. The inspector uses various measuring devices, accepts, rejects, or reworks defective or malfunctioning units or systems, and works from blueprints, diagrams, dial indicators, preset micrometers, scales, fixtures, customer specifications, drawing or inspection instructions, and checklists. The role may also involve monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures and performing line clearances after each lot to ensure all materials from the previous lot have been removed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years additional education and/or related experience
  • Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience
  • May require certification

  • Should be able to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions
  • Should able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces
  • Should be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb
  • Should be available to travel when needed

Responsibilities
