Requirements

• High school diploma.

• Ability to work with adult, elderly, and critically ill patients.
• Ability to work productively in emergencies, including cardiac and respiratory codes, and in on-call situations.
• Professionalism and proficiency in technical and interpersonal competencies as determined by PFT lab leadership after training.
• Four to twelve weeks of paid training, depending on prior experience, to acquire familiarity with procedures and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Coach patients through spirometry, including pre- and post-bronchodilator testing; lung volume measurements; DLCO testing; oximetry at rest and/or during exercise; and arterial blood gas testing.
• Maintain and calibrate pulmonary function testing equipment.
• Assist with technical training for newly hired technologists.
• Maintain annual competencies in technical skills and point-of-care testing.
• Report and participate in troubleshooting equipment, software, maintenance, or performance issues.
• Stock testing areas with supplies.
• Maintain a clean and safe testing environment and follow hospital infection-control policies.
• Document testing accurately in ComPAS and Epic.
• Participate in regular meetings and educational opportunities.
• Maintain a respectful, patient-focused environment of care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
