About The Position

The Pulmonary Function Technician is responsible for all tests performed, QA, CQI, training, equipment maintenance, proficiency testing, and policies and procedures development. They assist the pulmonary medicine department with emergency equipment inventory, ordering, cleaning and restocking supplies, and performing ABG draws. This role also involves charge entry for various departments and performing other duties as assigned while fulfilling all compliance responsibilities.

Requirements

Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) - credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Licensed in State of CT as Respiratory Care Practitioner
Current BLS certification
ACLS certification

Responsibilities

Performs Pulmonary Function Testing, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting of results. Provides technical support to other medical sections as needed.
Performs Arterial Blood Gas draws and analysis.
Supervises laboratory activities, ensuring assignments are performed correctly, unusual occurrences are reported, adequate coverage is provided, and proactive communication with management is maintained.
Manages equipment, supplies, and facilities, ensuring equipment is in good working order, the environment is clean and safe, and supplies are maintained with fiscal accountability.
Trains staff working in the lab or performing tests, documents staff competency, and teaches students the basics of PFT testing.
Provides backup for the Point of Care testing Coordinator for arterial blood gas, lactate, and co-oximetry testing, reviewing procedures and results to ensure quality.
Evaluates and implements new procedures and equipment, modifying and evaluating procedures and policies in an innovative and cost-effective manner.
Enters charges for the Pulmonary Lab, Pulmonary Rehab, and Bronchoscopy through Eclipsys.
Assists the Department of Pulmonary Medicine by performing daily rounds for emergency kits, checking tank contents, conducting monthly environmental rounds, and presenting results of ABG Critical Value Result audits.
Orders, cleans, and restocks supplies needed in the pulmonary department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
