Requirements

• A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
• RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in burn wound care for all burn patients as an adjunct to the bedside burn nurse and the patient care tech.
• Working as a team on a daily basis to create a daily wound care schedule.
• Assisting the nurse primarily in the Pediatric ICU but also providing coverage for adult patients in the Surgical Trauma Burn Intensive Care Unit (STBICIU) and 6W.
• Providing wound care to all patients who are on other units due to their medical condition or the unavailability of a bed in either the STBICU, 6W or the PICU.
• Collaborating with other team members to coordinate wound care for all burn patients.
• Assisting in the care of all patients on the burn service as well as patients that the team has been consulted for.
• Organizing a daily wound care schedule for the burn patients.
• Organizing the schedule for patients who will be going to hydrotherapy with the team, nurses, & anesthesiologists.
• Collaborating with the nurse caring for the burn patient with daily wound care & dressing changes.
• Providing ongoing wound care education for nurses.
• Participating in burn team meetings.
• Completing other duties as necessary and assigned by the Program Manager.
• Communicating with the multidisciplinary team, patient, and family.
• Attending AM rounds with the team for daily plan.
• Communicating/collaborating with the bedside nurses on a dressing change schedule.
• Communicating with the provider team on wound appearance changes.
• Communicating with the multidisciplinary team on ongoing status of the patient.
• Communicating with the patient and the family on burn wounds and dressings.
