About The Position

Requirements

• BSN from an accredited school of nursing; an RN with an Associate’s Degree must complete a BSN within five years of the start date.
• One year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting, or completion of a critical care fellowship.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.
• For pediatric units, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within six months.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse, or an active multistate Registered Nurse license.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of recent Registered Nurse experience on an inpatient unit.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Recent RN experience on a critical care unit.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments to collect basic data and follow written care plans, standards, and practice guidelines under supervision.
• Use assessment data and patient preferences to identify patient care needs.
• Organize, prioritize, and deliver patient care using Inova’s Nursing Professional Practice and Care Delivery Models, including procedures, therapies, tests, and patient education.
• Monitor patient progress toward expected outcomes and adjust care plans accordingly.
• Provide compassionate and empathetic care while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Support clinical decisions with educational knowledge, principles, and evidence-based practices.
• Work efficiently with the healthcare team to achieve productivity and desired outcomes.
• Document patient care activities accurately in compliance with documentation standards and seek help to improve documentation skills.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and meetings as part of the healthcare team.
• Integrate novice nursing abilities with new knowledge to deliver safe, high-quality care.
• Seek guidance and validation of clinical decisions from healthcare team members.
• Accept feedback, mentoring, and suggestions to improve care.
• Attend learning sessions required for successful completion of the RN Fellowship.
• Complete assignments on time, including classroom work, computer-based modules, lab simulations, and readings.
• Learn new skills and use equipment effectively for safe, high-quality patient care.
• May serve as a preceptor after completing orientation and competency requirements.
