About The Position

This position is ideal for a highly autonomous nurse eager to expand leadership skills and pursue advancement toward roles such as Nurse Clinician IV or Nursing Supervisor. The Nurse Clinician III is a proficient clinician with knowledge and skill to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. They are experienced, knowledgeable, and skilled in their specialty area, functioning competently as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Their practice is characterized by predominantly independent decision-making, is problem-focused and patient-centered, and allows them to manage unexpected or emergency situations commonly seen in their assigned specialty population. They serve as a resource for Nurse Clinician I or II and can manage commonly seen contingency situations that arise on the clinical unit. They provide patient care through nursing practices based upon the American Nurses Association Standards of Professional Practice, and Professional Performance, valuing specialty unit, nursing, and institutional strategic initiatives and health system goals.

Requirements

  • RN with two years of clinical RN experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a current license or valid permit to practice in Texas.
  • Current BLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4)+ years of clinical nursing experience, ideally in Women’s Health.
  • Experience functioning in a charge nurse or supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and career advancement
  • Demonstrated expert-level clinical judgment and ability to lead interdisciplinary responses to complex patient situations.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or evaluating evidence‑based standards of practice.
  • Ability to coach peers in specialty practice, patient education, and care coordination.
  • Experience as charge nurse, shared governance leader, or unit‑level project lead.
  • Experience coordinating unit workflow, guiding patient care operations, and supporting staff during assigned shifts.
  • Demonstrated skill in patient/family advocacy and supporting a positive patient‑care environment.
  • Ability to promote cost‑containment and support operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Executes provider orders, manages contingencies, and responds appropriately to emergent or unexpected clinical situations.
  • Provides culturally congruent, compassionate care consistent with professional standards.
  • Delivers comprehensive patient/family education using evidence‑based strategies, adjusting for readiness, values, and learning needs.
  • Plans and coordinates care activities across multiple subspecialties within Women’s Health.
  • Delegates appropriately and provides guidance to support safe and efficient care delivery.
  • Contributes to a healthy work environment through respectful communication and collaboration with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Serves as a supportive clinical resource for peers and supports unit‑level priorities and performance goals.
  • Identifies and reports patient safety concerns and participates in unit‑based improvement activities.
  • Maintains competency with documentation, infection control, and equipment use.
