About The Position

Requirements

• Current license to practice nursing in Pennsylvania, or a qualifying multistate license issued by a participating Nursing Licensure Compact state.
• Satisfactory completion of the Nursing Department orientation program and probationary period.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), based on AHA standards and including didactic and skills demonstration components, within 30 days of hire.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
• Act 34 clearance.
• No prior experience required.
• When assigned to STICU, ICU, T14-Surgical, T11, 5E, or SPCU: maintain six stroke and six trauma competencies per year and attend the annual Trauma Symposium.

Responsibilities

• Use nursing protocols and standards to perform and document procedures safely and accurately.
• Administer medications and IV therapy according to policy.
• Evaluate and document patient and family needs, and reassess patients every eight hours or as needed.
• Involve patients and families in developing care plans; prioritize needs, conduct care conferences, and keep care plans current.
• Coordinate care with community agencies and other professionals.
• Work with medical staff and other professionals to discuss and develop patient care plans.
• Use the Bed Management System, Alpha, CPOE, and other relevant computer systems efficiently.
• Initiate health teaching for patients and families based on their needs.
• Contribute to the education of staff and students.
• Provide guidance and support to other healthcare team members and demonstrate professionalism.
• Follow universal precautions and occupational exposure policies.
• Identify and address potential problems and environmental factors affecting patient care.
• Complete annual competency validation and maintain proficiency in point-of-care testing according to lab criteria.
• Complete NIHSS education before the end of orientation when required.
• When assigned to specified units, maintain six stroke and six trauma competencies per year and attend the annual Trauma Symposium.
