About The Position

Nurse Manager - Specialty Outpatient Services Role Summary Howard University Hospital is seeking a Nurse Manager - Specialty Outpatient Services to provide operational and clinical leadership for specialty outpatient programs, including infusion services, diabetes education, wound care, and other ambulatory specialty services. Reporting to the Director of Specialty Outpatient Services, this role oversees daily operations, staffing, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and patient care delivery across assigned programs. This leader will collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. The Nurse Manager will also step into clinical duties as needed to support staffing and operational continuity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical nursing experience required
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Experience in ambulatory services, infusion therapy, wound care, cardiology services, or other specialty outpatient programs preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the District of Columbia required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and performance improvement skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Experience in ambulatory services, infusion therapy, wound care, cardiology services, or other specialty outpatient programs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of specialty outpatient clinical programs including infusion, diabetes, wound care, and related ambulatory services
  • Supervise, develop, and evaluate nursing and support staff
  • Manage staffing plans and scheduling to maintain safe clinical coverage
  • Provide direct clinical care when needed to support staffing, patient safety, and continuity of operations
  • Monitor quality, patient safety, patient experience, and departmental performance metrics
  • Support regulatory readiness and ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, DC Department of Health, and other applicable standards
  • Participate in budget monitoring, resource management, and operational improvement efforts
  • Partner with physicians, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve care coordination and service delivery
  • Support strategic initiatives and growth of specialty outpatient services
