About The Position

The Emergency Medical Technician is a Pennsylvania certified EMT who is responsible for providing emergency and non-emergency pre-hospital care to patients and safe and efficient transport of patients. The EMT also performs clerical and non-technical duties as assigned by the St. Luke’s Emergency & Transport Service Leadership team.

Requirements

  • Pennsylvania certified EMT
  • Current BLS certification.
  • EMSVO certification.
  • Driver requirements (PA DOH Requirement): Be at least 18 years of age; Have a valid driver's license; Must observe all traffic laws; Must not be addicted to, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.; Must be free from any physical or mental defects or disease that may impair the person’s ability to drive an ambulance.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 or 800.
  • Tact courtesy, initiative, judgment and the ability to follow directions is required.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • 6 months or more experience as an EMT preferred.
  • Hazardous materials R & I certification or higher.
  • PHTLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Administering appropriate level care to patients in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards.
  • Working within their certification via the “scope of practice” regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
  • Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
  • Rescuing and extricating victims of accidents, sudden illness or entrapment using proper rescue and medical techniques.
  • Treating patients at the scene, en route to the hospital, and in a pre-hospital setting in accordance with federal, state, local, laws, regulations and standards.
  • Providing ambulance stand-by services at sporting events or any other activities designated by the St. Luke’s Emergency & Transport Services
  • Completely, accurately, and professionally documents assessments, physical findings and treatment rendered on approved patient care report. Completion shall be in accordance with departmental policies and state regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and responds appropriately to QA flags within a timely manner.
  • Completes vehicle and equipment accountability checklist each scheduled shift to ensure vehicle is in condition of readiness at all times. This includes cleaning, disinfecting, refueling and restocking supplies/equipment.
  • Appropriately escalates any issues utilizing proper chain of command.
  • Responsible for attending departmental meetings.
  • Maintains a clean and professional workplace at assigned ambulance station.
  • Operates emergency vehicle safely, in accordance with State Laws and SLETS policies.
  • Demonstrates/models the hospitals core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrates continuous Quality Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
