About The Position

Lynn Public Schools is seeking a Middle School Math Teacher for the 26/27 school year. This position is part of the new City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA), a grade 6-12 school for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) that will open in September 2025. CASA will integrate advanced curricula, interdisciplinary project-based learning, and real-world applications to inspire and engage students from diverse backgrounds. The school utilizes unique opportunities within the Lynn community to build innovative, responsive, and meaningful project-based learning experiences. CASA faculty are essential partners in creating an environment that fosters excellence and cultivates tomorrow’s leaders in STEM and the Arts. The school is committed to a dynamic schedule that allows students to learn in authentic, collaborative, and inter/transdisciplinary ways. Teacher collaboration and inspiration are foundational, with common planning time and ongoing professional development provided. Community partners are integral to the school's connections to Lynn.

Requirements

  • Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Mathematics 5-8 or Middle School Mathematics/Science 5-8
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • SEI Endorsement as applicable.
  • Experience in urban schools preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for and/or experience with project-based learning, multidisciplinary curriculum, STEAM pedagogy, and the willingness to develop professionally in these areas.
  • A desire to increase skills and ability to deliver strong, innovative, project-based learning across many disciplines.
  • Commitment to the arts as an important element in a complete education.
  • Commitment to cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity as an element in a complete education.
  • Commitment to and demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction in the classroom.
  • Enthusiasm and eagerness to work at a new school, be a founding team member, and build school culture.
  • Ability to take on responsibilities and prioritize quickly.
  • Ability to work in an innovative, collaborative, diverse school.
  • Excellent communication skills and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and researches project-based learning experiences that are engaging, educational and exciting for students.
  • Welcomes the flexibility of being part of an emergent team and is willing to respond to the changing needs of a creative, innovative learning and teaching environment.
  • Is enthusiastic about developing a project-based classroom; modifying and expanding existing curriculum to respond to the needs of the students at any given time.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
  • Incorporates goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the student’s lived experience and to the Lynn community.
  • Collaborates with community partners and other teachers.
  • Collaborate, participate in, and lead the creation of an integrated interdisciplinary arts-infused, project-based curriculum including developing and assessing exhibitions.
  • Along with other faculty, participate in strategic planning and department management. Areas include but are not limited to assessment, piloting and creating new curricula, piloting and creating cross-discipline short and long-term projects, implementing technology, student case management, and exhibition/competition/partnership participation.
  • Internalize and draw from district curricula seeking opportunities to develop project-based learning aligned to district curricula; actively seek opportunities to supplement curricula with a culturally-responsive lens.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/caregivers about student progress.
  • Accept flexible assignments, such as team and interdisciplinary teaching, working with different age groups and ability levels, etc.
  • Work with university, college, and community collaborators.
  • Perform general administrative tasks associated with teaching, learning, and data cycles.
  • Align the teaching and learning cycles to connect to school-wide student learning expectations and school-wide learning experiences.
  • Participate in a paid, forty-hour summer institute.
  • Other duties as assigned.
