About The Position

Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Technician 1 to join its Adolescent Psychiatry team. This full-time position is scheduled for day shift, consisting of three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The technician supports patient safety and a therapeutic milieu, communicates patient progress and changes to the Registered Nurse, completes required documentation, reinforces transition and discharge teaching, and provides information and orientation to patients, families, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, required upon start.

  • Clinical or medical background.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate patients' progress toward desired outcomes and changes to the Registered Nurse.
  • Monitor patients and their environment and intervene appropriately to promote a safe and therapeutic milieu.
  • Complete forms and flow sheets accurately according to policies and procedures.
  • Reinforce transition and discharge teaching and home care skills.
  • Provide information to patients, families, and visitors; orient patients to the unit and program; explain the rationale for rules or restrictions; and provide printed information.
