About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate Level Advanced Nursing Practice degree or a Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice or Nurse Practitioner- Primary Health Care Diploma.
• Eligible to register as an NP with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN).
• Two years NP experience preferred but will consider new NPs graduates who have 5 years recent RN experience in acute care setting.
• Possession of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Nice To Haves

• Successfully completed a Nurse Practitioner competency challenge process through a Nursing Regulatory-Licensing body.
• Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Neonatal resuscitation (NRP), ALARM, STABLE, Fetal Monitoring, pelvic examination, labour and delivery experience with advanced obstetrical training.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS), Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), fetal monitoring, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Care (ENPC) or Pedatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), ALARM/ESW/FHS, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, ASIST or Mental Health First Aid.
• EKG interpretation, Critical Incident Stress Management, Pelvic Examination Training, Cross Cultural Training, Specialized Nursing Certificates.
• Graduated from the Nunavut Arctic College nursing program or other Canadian accredited nursing programs and have passed their NCLEX and been accepted into the Graduate Nursing Residency Program.
• Ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages.
• Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional nursing care and community health services to clients;
• Develops, facilitates, implements and modifies client and family education/teaching based on the needs of the client;
• Conducts health surveillance and preventative activities that may improve the health of the population;
• Provides expert and specialized knowledge of primary health care related to nursing in Nunavut.
