About The Position

Requirements

• MT (ASCP) or equivalent registry eligible required.
• Bachelor degree required.
• Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level.
• Able to operate Lab Instrumentation with minimal supervision.
• Near visual & hearing acuity required to perform essential duties of position.
• Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
• Completes annual education requirements.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
• Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
• Attends mandatory meetings; attends and/or reads minutes of other scheduled meetings.
• Supports the Mission and goals of JCMH and department for quality patient care.
• Respects patient confidentiality and uses discretion in discussion of patient information.
• Recognizes when others are in need of assistance and consistently offers to help when own workload permits or finds someone who can.
• Assists Managers/Supervisors with scheduling/workload needs.
• Demonstrates courteous behavior and telephone etiquette through polite and respectful communication with all patients, guests, and co-workers.
• Follows hospital and departmental requirements for infection control and safety.
• Demonstrates evidence of maintaining professional knowledge and skills (competency).
• Demonstrates initiative in all areas.

Nice To Haves

• One year previous prior experience in a hospital laboratory setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs all laboratory procedures in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner.
• Performs venipuncture and arterial punctures.
• Solves problems and handles difficult situations appropriately with little or no supervision.
• Communicates effectively with medical professionals.
• Practices clinical lab science in Chemistry & Special Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and Blood Bank.
• Performs appropriate instrument checks and maintenance.
• Properly operates lab instruments and performs required procedures.
• Evaluates, troubleshoots, researches, and resolves day-to-day problems or special projects.
• Understands and responds appropriately to STAT, Urgent, and Timed tests.
• Maintains all necessary records in all departments.
• Able to perform well in all areas of the lab during Health Information System downtime scenarios.
• Takes care not to compromise patient care with excessive rejections, recollections, or delays.
• Utilizes judgment in including appropriate disclaimer statements in the report.
• Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and either corrects them or immediately notifies the Lab Supervisor.
