About The Position

Requirements

• Florida State License is required; must meet Florida State requirements for licensure and continuing education for license renewal.
• Ability to communicate in English promptly, clearly, and courteously, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to interpret and analyze information to perform laboratory procedures.
• Ability to use a computer to enter and access patient data.
• Ability to accurately relay patient test results to the appropriate person.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform laboratory techniques and use laboratory instruments.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
• Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with physicians, patients, families, and coworkers.
• Ability to problem-solve and adapt standard clinical procedures to individual client needs.
• Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Arts or Science degree preferred.
• National Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Comply with hospital and laboratory safety regulations.
• Maintain temperatures and perform quality control on instrumentation and reagents used daily.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and calibrations on instruments and equipment; maintain the cleanliness of instruments, equipment, and work areas.
• Perform internal and external proficiency testing, and promptly evaluate and respond to proficiency testing survey results.
• Participate in teaching laboratory procedures and policies to students and staff rotations.
• Perform and report laboratory tests accurately within required turnaround times.
• Perform quality control and quality improvement processes and maintain required records.
• Recognize and report critical values within specified timeframes to appropriate patient care personnel.
• Conduct parallel studies, evaluate new instrumentation, and implement new test procedures in accordance with CAP standards.
• Participate in department lean processes overseen by the director.
• Demonstrate and ensure proper indication and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Review instrumentation, processes, reagents, and storage daily to ensure compliance.
• Comply with standards and regulations of accrediting agencies, including FDA, CAP, DNV, AHCA, CMS, and AABB.
• Provide coverage on assigned rotating weekends as part of the lab team.
