About The Position

Under the general supervision of a Lab Supervisor, the MT/CLS performs all laboratory procedures in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This includes proficiency in venipuncture and arterial punctures, problem-solving, and effective communication with medical professionals. The role involves practicing clinical lab science across various specialties, including Chemistry & Special Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and Blood Bank. Responsibilities include performing instrument checks, maintenance, and operation, troubleshooting issues, and responding appropriately to STAT, Urgent, and Timed tests. The Medical Technologist II must maintain records, be able to function during Health Information System downtime, and ensure patient care is not compromised by excessive rejections, recollections, or delays. They must also utilize judgment in including appropriate disclaimer statements when results may be compromised.

Requirements

  • MT (ASCP) or equivalent registry eligible required.
  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level.
  • Able to operate Lab Instrumentation with minimal supervision.
  • Near visual & hearing acuity required to perform essential duties of position.
  • Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Attends mandatory meetings; attends and/or reads minutes of other scheduled meetings.
  • Supports the Mission and goals of JCMH and department for quality patient care.
  • Respects patient confidentiality and uses discretion in discussion of patient information.
  • Recognizes when others are in need of assistance and consistently offers to help when own workload permits or finds someone who can.
  • Assists Managers/Supervisors with scheduling/workload needs.
  • Demonstrates courteous behavior and telephone etiquette through polite and respectful communication with all patients, guests, and co-workers.
  • Follows hospital and departmental requirements for infection control and safety.
  • Demonstrates evidence of maintaining professional knowledge and skills (competency).
  • Demonstrates initiative in all areas.

  • One year previous prior experience in a hospital laboratory setting preferred.

  • Takes care not to compromise patient care with excessive rejections, recollections, or delays.
  • Utilizes judgment in including appropriate disclaimer statements in the report.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and either corrects them or immediately notifies the Lab Supervisor.
