About The Position

The purpose of the Machine Maintenance Mechanic I is to ensure all machines are well-maintained and operating properly to help ensure the production of quality products. This role involves the collection, safe handling, and disposal of various materials like metal chips, used oil, and chemicals. The mechanic will also be responsible for checking and maintaining fluid levels (coolant, water, oil, grease) in machines, managing chip barrels and catch pans, and operating a forklift. Key duties include performing emergency and unscheduled repairs, regular preventive maintenance, dismantling defective parts using various tools, cleaning and lubricating equipment, and recording all maintenance activities. The position requires compliance with safety regulations and maintaining clean work areas.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for collection, safe handling, and disposal of metal chips, used oil, soiled items and chemicals to and from machines and various locations around the facility.
  • Check coolant levels, coolant percentage, hardness and PH levels of water, oils and grease levels in machines, adding coolant, water, additives, oil and/or grease when necessary to bring to appropriate levels.
  • Check barrels at machines for chip levels and replace with empty barrels when full.
  • Check catch pans, trays, drain buckets for oil or coolant and empty as necessary.
  • Operate forklift to move drums, containers, and other items around facility.
  • Provide emergency / unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Clean and lubricate parts, equipment and machinery.
  • Record all repairs and maintenance performed.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
