About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of facilities maintenance experience, preferably in a church, school, or institutional environment.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift, climb ladders, and perform physical labor as required.
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
• Must complete VIRTUS Safe Environment training prior to beginning employment (or within the timeframe required by the Diocese).
• Must comply with all diocesan Child Protection policies and mandatory reporting laws.

Nice To Haves

• Trade certification or technical training preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all parish and school buildings, including the church, classrooms, offices, parish hall, restrooms, storage areas, and auxiliary facilities.
• Perform routine repairs and coordinate major repairs related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, and general structural needs.
• Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule.
• Maintain records of inspections, repairs, warranties, and service contracts.
• Oversee landscaping, lawn care, irrigation systems, playground areas, sidewalks, and parking lots.
• Ensure safe conditions during inclement weather, including ice mitigation and storm preparation.
• Monitor exterior lighting and campus security-related infrastructure.
• Ensure facilities meet all applicable diocesan policies, fire codes, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations.
• Maintain fire alarm systems, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and safety signage.
• Assist in implementing diocesan risk management procedures.
• Report safety hazards promptly to the pastor and principal.
• Assist the pastor and principal in the supervision of custodial staff.
• Establish and maintain cleaning standards for church and school facilities.
• Manage inventory and ordering of custodial and maintenance supplies.
• Prepare facilities for weekend Masses, Holy Days, sacramental celebrations, Funerals and major liturgical events.
• Assist with setup and breakdown for parish and school functions.
• Obtain bids in accordance with financial policies of the Parish and the Diocese.
• Supervise contractors performing maintenance or capital improvements.
• Communicate major repair needs to the pastor for approval prior to work being performed.
• Assist Pastor in developing and managing the annual maintenance budget.
• Practice responsible stewardship of parish and school resources.
• Identify long-term capital improvement needs.
