About The Position

The Lot Attendant/Porter/Janitor is responsible for maintaining the appearance and order of the dealership's vehicle inventory and lot. This includes comparing vehicle serial numbers to invoices, inspecting vehicles for damage, cataloging keys, assigning stock numbers, and moving vehicles to optimize space and display standards. The role also involves servicing vehicles in storage to prevent deterioration, cleaning and maintaining the interior and exterior of vehicles, and ensuring all fluids are replenished. Additionally, the position requires keeping the lot neat and orderly, cleaning driveways and sidewalks, and driving vehicles as needed for service or preparation. The job also includes making key tags and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • No prior experience or training.
  • Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Compares serial numbers of incoming cars against invoice.
  • Inspects vehicles to detect damage and to verify the presence of accessories listed on the invoice.
  • Records the description of damages and lists missing items on the delivery receipt.
  • Parks new vehicles in assigned areas.
  • Catalogs and stores keys.
  • Assigns stock control numbers to cars.
  • Moves sold vehicles to maximize use of space and keep the lot in order.
  • Delivers sold vehicles to the new-vehicle preparation department.
  • Services vehicles in storage to protect tires, battery, and finish against deterioration.
  • Maintains new- and used-vehicle inventory appearance and performance by cleaning interior and exterior of vehicles, replenishing all vehicle fluids as needed, and replacing batteries when necessary.
  • Places buyer guides and stock tags in vehicles.
  • Keeps new- and used-vehicle lots neat and orderly, moving cars as directed by the general manager and in accordance with dealership display standards.
  • Cleans driveway and sidewalks, removing snow and debris as necessary.
  • Drives vehicles to and from service lane, service stalls, and parking lot as needed.
  • Makes key tags for vehicles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
