About The Position

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Tier 5 clearance.
• Submit to a credit check after accepting a conditional offer of employment.
• Pass a pre-appointment drug test and submit to random drug testing while in the position.
• Meet the basic education or certification requirement through one of the following: a bachelor's or graduate/higher degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or a related science; or a bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, or life science including 12 semester hours in chemistry (including organic chemistry) and 18 additional semester hours in specified related subjects; or certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing.
• For GS-13, have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 evaluating workplace hazards for compliance with safety and industrial hygiene regulations; using industrial hygiene equipment to collect and document environmental and facility data; and providing guidance on environmental controls to mitigate safety hazards.
• Current or recently held federal employees subject to competitive merit promotion time-in-grade rules must have 52 weeks at the next lower grade; applicable applicants must provide SF-50 documentation.
• Submit transcripts or equivalent documentation if qualifying through an education requirement or substituting education or training for experience.
• Disclose current or recent Executive Branch political appointment status as specified in the announcement.

Responsibilities

• Conduct air quality surveys and personnel air monitoring to assess exposure to lead, noise, volatile organic compounds, dusts, mists, vapors, and other hazards.
• Conduct non-ionizing radiation surveys to assess employee exposure to electromagnetic radiation.
• Independently conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with industry, local, and federal regulations.
• Provide technical guidance on evaluating and using chemical laboratory hoods, ventilation systems, biological safety cabinets, and personal protective equipment.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative fit testing, conduct hands-on training, provide respiratory protection guidance, and/or coordinate with health professionals on medical surveillance.
• Work with a team to report on and develop recommendations for environmental and industrial hygiene issues, including wastewater, chemical inventory, hazardous material storage, air permits, and emergency procedures.
