The State Comptroller’s office plays a critical role in managing the state's finances which range from paying state employees to balancing the state’s checkbook and working with local units of government in distribution of tax dollars. The State Comptroller is critical to developing year-end financial reports, and manages the Indiana Transparency Protal. The incumbent serves as General Counsel for the Office of Indiana State Comptroller (Comptroller) providing legal advice, reviewing policy and and compliance matters along with coordinating with the executive team on legislative matters, including drafting legislation as necessary. Other responsibilities include coordinating with state agencies on legal and statutory changes in areas relevant to Office operations. The General Counsel works alongside all departments to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations. Areas of note include local government tax disbursements and garnishments. The General Counsel manages office contracts, negotiations and public records requests.
