About The Position

This position provides pre-hospital and interfacility patient care as part of the ALERT air ambulance team, collaborating with a flight nurse. The role involves coordinating care with other disciplines, especially pre-hospital providers, and servicing neonatal, pediatric, adult, OB high-risk, and geriatric populations. The Critical Care Flight Paramedic also works with the pilot to provide navigational and radio communication assistance. The company is seeking an experienced, highly skilled Critical Care Transport Paramedic confident in advanced patient care, aviation operations, and collaborative flight team environments.

Requirements

  • Current Montana EMT-P and/or National Registry Paramedic licensure required
  • Minimum of three (3) years paramedic experience required
  • State of Montana Critical Care Transport Paramedic endorsement required
  • Current CPR certification required for assigned area(s)
  • Must be able to meet ALERT Medical Director approval for Critical Care Endorsement within one (1) year of hire
  • Continuous ability to meet flight status physical standards
  • Maximum body weight of 250 lbs with flight gear (approx. 10 lbs additional gear)
  • Responsibility to self-monitor and report any changes affecting flight eligibility
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to function independently and as part of a team
  • Strong critical thinking and prioritization skills in high-acuity environments
  • Commitment to teamwork and maintaining confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to engage a variety of audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and diplomacy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional systems and software

Nice To Haves

  • PALS certification (preferred or must obtain within one year of hire)
  • NRP certification (preferred or must obtain within one year of hire)
  • PHTLS certification, equivalent, or ATLS audit (preferred or must obtain within one year of hire)
  • AMLS certification (preferred or must obtain within one year of hire)
  • CCEMTP or FP-C preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments in collaboration with a Flight RN in accordance with flight and department protocols
  • Conduct daily aircraft readiness checks including equipment, oxygen systems, batteries, and avalanche gear
  • Complete and document monthly equipment pack checks per protocol
  • Participate in chart completion in collaboration with the Flight Nurse
  • Complete required flight competencies and ongoing education requirements
  • Assist with safe loading and unloading of patients to and from aircraft
  • Perform radio communication with dispatch, ground, and ambulance crews
  • Coordinate and establish secure landing zones as needed
  • Utilize and demonstrate competency with aviation and communication systems including GPS data entry, satellite phone, HTAWS, TCAS, SkyTrac, and other flight safety systems
  • Work collaboratively with the Flight RN in all aspects of patient care following established protocols
  • Maintain operational awareness and contribute to safe, efficient flight operations
