About The Position

The Lake Havasu City Fire Department is seeking a dynamic and creative Public Education Specialist to lead its fire and life safety initiatives. This role involves being the face of safety, educating the community from schoolchildren to local officials on safety and preparedness. The specialist will design and deliver high-energy safety programs, manage community outreach, and lead critical risk-reduction strategies. Responsibilities include being the primary voice for fire prevention, handling social media messaging, hands-on CPR training, and child safety seat inspections.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Education, Public Administration, Fire Science, or a related field.
  • Moderate experience in fire prevention, instruction, or life safety education.
  • Confident public speaker, skilled writer, and tech-savvy with social media and instructional design.
  • A genuine desire to build effective relationships with diverse community groups and government agencies.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain AFSI/FEMA NIMS training, Fire & Life Safety Educator I, and AHA CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor within Year 1.
  • Ability to obtain Fire & Life Safety Educator II, Youth Fire Setter Intervention, and National Child Passenger Safety Technician within Year 2.
  • Ability to obtain Fire & Life Safety Educator Program Manager within Year 3.

Responsibilities

  • Present fire and life safety programs to schools, community groups, and the public.
  • Design visual aids, marketing materials, and lesson plans for awareness campaigns.
  • Oversee the Youth Fire Setting Intervention Program and the City’s AED/CPR certification programs.
  • Work with the Deputy Fire Chief and the City’s Community Engagement Officer to ensure the message reaches every corner of the community.
  • Manage the public education budget and coordinate schedules for major community events.
