About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Valid Idaho Driver's License.
• Successfully pass a background investigation relevant to the position and remain in good standing for the duration of employment.
• Knowledge of evidence, property, and records storage and warehousing methods, equipment, standard practices, and objectives.
• Knowledge of protocols for handling biohazardous materials, including blood, narcotics, and body fluids.
• Knowledge of State Lab requirements for processing and evaluating evidence.
• Knowledge of Sheriff's Department policies and procedures related to evidence collection, inventory, and disposal.
• Knowledge of recordkeeping and filing procedures.
• Ability to maintain evidence storage, security, and accounting procedures and to process, file, and maintain records for easy retrieval.
• Ability to write and record detailed information accurately and quickly, assist investigators with evidence and photographs at crime scenes, and operate standard office equipment, including a personal computer and relevant applications.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English; listen, understand, and communicate effectively through oral, written, and interpersonal channels; and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently and exercise initiative with general guidance and supervision.
• Ability to use sound judgment and problem-solving skills to address customer service needs in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, meet time-sensitive deadlines with accuracy and speed, demonstrate integrity and ingenuity, and follow County safety policies.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of experience in property accountability, warehousing, police work, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with crime investigations by gathering, processing, and storing crime scene photographs and related evidence.
• Receive, log, inventory, store, and release evidence.
• Tag, mark, package, and secure property, evidence, and sensitive materials to preserve security and chain of custody.
• Monitor and control evidence and property distribution so materials are used only by authorized personnel.
• Maintain complex filing systems that provide convenient access to records.
• Prepare and destroy evidence as authorized.
• Prepare evidence for submission to the Idaho State Lab, distribute lab reports, and conduct required follow-up.
• Receive, process, and prepare reports, records, logs, and other documents.
• Enter evidence into the property management system for logging, tracking, and storage.
• Keep the immediate supervisor informed about work progress, problems, and possible improvements.
• Communicate and coordinate with coworkers to support effective and efficient interdepartmental operations.
• Maintain confidentiality in all cases and interact professionally with County employees, customers, visitors, and the general public.
• Keep the evidence room clean and organized.
• Order supplies and perform other duties as assigned.
