Editor-in-Chief, SEO & AEO Content

Jerry.aiSan Francisco, CA
$150,000 - $190,000Remote

About The Position

Jerry.ai is seeking an Editor-in-Chief to lead the company's content quality and output across its website (jerry.ai) and external platforms. This role will be responsible for building and managing a system that establishes Jerry as an authoritative source of information wherever customers seek answers. The position requires a strong understanding of the evolving discovery landscape, including not only traditional SEO but also Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) to ensure visibility in AI-generated responses from platforms like ChatGPT and Claude. The Editor-in-Chief will own traffic and AI-citation targets directly impacting business growth and will be instrumental in rebuilding Jerry's AI-native content system, including designing and operating the entire brief-to-publish pipeline. A critical aspect of this role is ensuring the accuracy and compliance of content, particularly in the YMYL (Your Money Your Life) finance category, which has a zero-tolerance standard for factual claims and requires rigorous verification and human judgment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in content and editorial roles.
  • 3+ years leading an SEO-driven content program at a consumer, fintech, insurtech, or marketplace brand, or at a content-led media or affiliate site.
  • Demonstrable organic growth results (sessions grown, publish volume scaled, topic cluster built) with supporting dashboard data.
  • Hands-on command of LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) for drafting and research.
  • Proficiency with SEO and content tools such as Sitefire, Surfer, Clearscope, MarketMuse, or Frase.
  • Fluency in Google Search Console (GSC), Semrush or Ahrefs, and Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
  • Comfortable owning a traffic target, not just reporting on it.
  • Experience managing at least one writer and/or a freelance bench, while continuing to produce content personally.
  • A portfolio demonstrating voice, editorial judgment, and accuracy, not just keyword density.
  • Experience shipping a real AI-assisted content pipeline in production with guardrails that maintained quality at scale.
  • Understanding of where AI earns its place and where it creates risk in content production.
  • Experience tracking brand presence in AI answer engines and knowledge of what impacts performance.
  • Experience working in a regulated or high-stakes content category (insurance, personal finance, health, or legal) where accuracy is paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Own Jerry's editorial engine across jerry.ai and external platforms, including roadmap, architecture, resource allocation, and organic traffic and conversion targets.
  • Define content strategy and achieve associated numbers.
  • Design and run the brief → AI draft → human edit → QA → publish workflow for AI-native content production.
  • Manage and develop prompt libraries, QA gates, and quality-drift metrics to enable scalable output without degradation.
  • Set policy on AI's role in content creation and define human involvement checkpoints.
  • Build pages and content clusters that rank on Google and earn citations from AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews).
  • Structure content for answer capsules, question-based headings, FAQ schema, and entity optimization.
  • Stay updated on the evolving AI landscape and ensure model updates benefit Jerry's content.
  • Track citation presence across search and AI answer engines and own the roadmap for closing gaps.
  • Set and enforce Jerry's voice and style guide across writers, freelancers, and AI output.
  • Build the trust infrastructure required for YMYL finance content, including named expert authors, sourcing discipline, editorial review processes, and transparent credentials.
  • Manage one direct report, AI agents, and a freelance bench.
  • Set the editorial bar through personal work and leadership.
