OHS/EHS Supervisor

About The Position

Mastronardi Produce, a leading greenhouse vegetable company, is seeking an OHS/EHS Supervisor to join their Food Safety team at their corporate office in Livonia, Michigan. This role provides managerial support and subject matter expertise to ensure appropriate OHS/EHS systems and resources are in place across US and Canadian locations. The OHS/EHS Supervisor will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, manage environmental, health, and occupational safety programs, and drive continuous improvement in risk reduction, incident prevention, environmental performance, and safety culture. The role involves advising facility management, creating OHS/EHS plans, and driving the understanding and implementation of company OHS/EHS policies through education and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (occupational safety, environmental science, or engineering or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years of environmental, health & safety experience managing OHS/EHS programs and solutions in a multi-facility environment.
  • Experience working in diverse production and distribution settings.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 30 (General Industry), DOT, EPA, and other relevant regulations and/or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) training.
  • Experience managing and working with all levels of the organization at multiple locations.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OHS/EHS management systems and their implementation, including experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to communicate with all levels of the organization, government agencies, and other outside entities.
  • Strong substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by federal and state OSHA, OHS/EHS management systems and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize projects to deliver high-quality work by the deadline.
  • Ability to travel regularly to facilities.
  • Ability to see possibilities, offer solutions, apply critical thinking, and employ creativity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently, and demonstrate self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and counsel location leaders on their OHS/EHS accountability to achieve a Zero Incident Culture.
  • Develop and integrate specific OHS/EHS processes and procedures to support company-wide initiatives.
  • Ensure the competency and quality of facility-level OHS/EHS resources, develop and mentor talent, and promote knowledge transfer.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations across assigned sites.
  • Track OHS/EHS obligations and requirements at facilities, providing support and escalating as needed.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies.
  • Establish and monitor OHS/EHS performance metrics/KPIs to track progress and influence strategic decisions.
  • Drive facility execution of initiatives to eliminate hazards, reduce risks, and improve OHS/EHS performance.
  • Support the director in overseeing safety training and education, ensuring scheduling, presentation, and completion of required programs and maintenance of records.
  • Provide solutions to OHS/EHS-related issues and participate in incident investigations to ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Lead internal and external OHS/EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions, recommending corrective actions.
  • Support facilities in testing and evaluating workplace hazards.
  • Provide consultative support to HR, Legal, and operations on workplace accidents, injuries, illnesses, and safety.
  • Manage the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Response Teams.
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly Safety Steering Committee Meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
