About The Position

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a degree related to the majors that the staff will be advising.
• Minimum 1 year of related work experience.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively mentor undergraduates and coordinate/facilitate programs and events.
• Solid understanding of career development theory, job search strategies and job market trends directly related to career opportunities for Communications majors at Elon.
• Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and senior school administrators.
• High level of organization and attention to detail.
• Capacity and enthusiasm for succeeding in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience includes working within career services or academic advising in higher education, communications, or recruiting or human resources in industry.
• Experience in higher education or industry is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Meet one-on-one with undergraduate, graduate students and alumni to provide career advising in the School of Communications. Meet with students in-person, virtually and via phone to discuss all facets of their professional development including but not limited to: resume reviews, cover letter reviews, mock interviews, offer discussions, networking, job search, internship search, career and major exploration. Support student career advising through hosting drop-in hours regularly. Tailor advising sessions to meet the unique professional development needs of each individual.
• Develop and deliver high quality and timely programs/events/workshops, including classroom presentations, geared to help Communications students with exploring majors/careers, networking and building connections with alumni, and conducting an effective internship or full-time job search. Seek student engagement opportunities to encourage career conversations and support for students.
• Assist in the creation of marketing content, maintaining online/web resources, and sharing event and employment opportunities with students, faculty, and staff.
• Work closely with School of Communications faculty and staff, SPDC career development staff and additional staff members across campus to support campus-wide career programming.
