About The Position

Absher Construction, a respected general contractor with over 85 years of experience and a 100% employee-owned structure, is seeking an experienced Commercial Superintendent. This role will lead complex, large-scale construction projects, specifically including Department of Defense and federal work. The Superintendent will be the on-site leader responsible for planning, sequencing, and overseeing daily field operations for projects valued at $40M+. Key aspects of the role include driving safety, quality, schedule performance, and fostering strong relationships with federal partners, design teams, trade contractors, and internal project teams.

Requirements

  • Strong field leadership, sound judgment, and deep experience managing complex commercial and federal construction projects
  • Understanding of the structure, documentation, and accountability required on DoD work
  • Ability to lead teams in highly regulated environments
  • Clear communication skills
  • High standards and pride in delivering projects correctly
  • Minimum of 8 years of Superintendent experience on commercial construction projects
  • Proven experience leading projects valued at $40M+
  • At least 2 years of experience on NAVFAC and/or USACE projects
  • Strong understanding of federal contracting requirements, QA/QC, and safety standards EM-385-1-1
  • Experience working in secure and active federal facilities
  • In-depth knowledge of craft functions and union agreements
  • OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, inclusion, and developing future leaders
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Proficiency with Procore and Primavera P6

Responsibilities

  • Lead all on-site construction activities from mobilization through closeout
  • Supervise, train, and mentor field staff, craft labor, and subcontractors
  • Set clear expectations around safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism
  • Ensure work is executed in compliance with contract requirements, federal regulations, and project standards
  • Partner closely with Project Managers, owners, inspectors, and design teams
  • Manage CPM schedules, pull plans, and detailed look-ahead schedules
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, reporting, and documentation required for federal projects
  • Maintain site security, access controls, and compliance with DoD project protocols
  • Monitor labor, material usage, and field productivity to support project financial goals
  • Proactively identify risks and resolve field issues before they impact schedule or quality
