About The Position
The Occupational Therapist provides patient care in an acute-care hospital setting. The role evaluates patients using available clinical information and appropriate testing, identifies problems, sets realistic goals, determines treatment effectiveness, and develops and carries out treatment plans. The therapist documents patient progress, prepares for discharge, orders equipment, and ensures prescriptions are completed. The position also involves coordinating treatment time, assisting with coverage and training, and supporting patient and staff safety. This is a full-time position scheduled for five 8-hour days per week, totaling 40 hours. During training, the employee follows the trainer’s start time, including weekends; after training, the start time is 10 a.m. Weekend shifts are required three times per month during the first two years and twice per month thereafter. Flex days are mandatory as needed to maintain a 40-hour workweek, and flexible weekend shift arrangements are subject to approval. Thanksgiving and Christmas work is required as part of a rotating schedule. Overtime for eligible non-exempt full-time OT/PT staff is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate for hours beyond 40 per week; overtime and holiday premiums are not paid simultaneously. Shift differentials are available.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification from a course accredited by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, required upon hire.
- Texas occupational therapy license or eligibility for a Texas license, required upon hire.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- General patient-care skills with hospital experience.
- Ability to perform heavy physical effort, including lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds; prolonged standing and walking; and lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients and lifting supplies or equipment.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and treatment-specific patient-care protocols, and pass competency reviews.
- Use proper body mechanics and teach others to do so, maintaining safety and maximizing patients’ treatment potential.
- Review available patient information, including history, physical findings, and complaints.
- Select and perform appropriate testing and measurement procedures, identify and document problems, establish realistic goals and time frames, and assess treatment effectiveness.
- Analyze patient problems and goals to design treatment plans, prepare for discharge, document progress, order equipment, and ensure prescriptions are completed in full.
- Organize patient treatment and unscheduled time efficiently.
- Assist with coverage of other patients and with on-the-job training, education, and supervision of occupational therapy technicians, students, and/or nursing staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
