About The Position

The Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment for the 2026–2027 school year. The role involves creating engaging, child-centered learning experiences, planning and implementing curriculum, supporting children’s development and behavior, communicating with parents and guardians, and maintaining program records and classroom materials. The specific childcare site will be determined during the interview. The YMCA offers team support, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to contribute to a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening the community.

Requirements

• Degree from an accredited college or university in an education- or human-services-related field.
• At least two years of verified childcare experience (2,500 hours).
• Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
• Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date.

Responsibilities

• Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
• Plan and implement curriculum and provide child-centered, developmentally appropriate learning experiences using positive reinforcement for behavioral management.
• Conduct and record weekly child observations, including observations related to behavioral concerns or development that may require early intervention with parents or guardians.
• Communicate patiently, kindly, effectively, and promptly with parents and guardians about children’s program experiences and progress, both verbally and in writing, while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
• Ensure centers have quality learning materials organized in labeled containers associated with appropriate learning centers.
• Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
• Actively support the Annual Campaign and work to develop donors and volunteers.
