About The Position

The Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment for the 2026–2027 school year. The role involves creating engaging learning experiences for children in a fun, diverse environment, maintaining positive and developmentally appropriate classrooms, communicating with families, and keeping accurate program records. The position also contributes to team planning and the YMCA’s community fundraising efforts.

Requirements

• A degree from an accredited college or university in education or a human-services-related field.
• At least 2 years of verified child care experience (2,500 hours).
• Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
• Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date.

Responsibilities

• Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
• Plan and implement curriculum and provide child-centered, developmentally appropriate learning experiences, using positive reinforcement for behavioral management.
• Conduct and record weekly child observations, including observations related to behavior or development that may require early intervention with parents or guardians.
• Communicate effectively and promptly with parents or guardians about children’s program experiences and progress, both verbally and in writing, while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
• Keep centers supplied with quality learning materials and organize materials in labeled containers for the appropriate learning centers.
• Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
• Actively support the Annual Campaign and help develop donors and volunteers.
